How do I install my mantel?
Installation is relatively simple and can be done by a tile setter or skilled carpenter. Due to the lightweight material, there is no need for floor joist reinforcement, and even the heaviest element can be lifted by one person. It is most important that the level is checked frequently to ensure successful installation.
1. Sweep and clean area- floor and wall.
2. Set legs against wall to find level position, using shims will assist in achieving a level leg.
3. Place mantel on legs and check level.
4. Take mantel off legs and prepare to glue legs in place.
5. Apply Durabond 90 to rear of leg and bottom. Place in previous position, continue use of shims to maintain level.
6. Screw to wall and allow legs to dry in place.
7. Place mantel upon installed legs and check level, use shims if necessary.
8. Remove mantel, apply liquid nails to top of legs and along rear of mantel- use sparingly but create a solid bond.
9. Allow any excess glue to dry a bit before removal, wet glue will smear and cause difficult cleanup.
10. Mix material as directed to cover any screw holes in legs. Material is included in the crate with the legs.
